Small diving boat “Malysh”
Boat base case

Technical characteristics and general arrangement

Concept of design

Wrecking and underwater engineering work in sea near shore zones, on rivers, lakes and reservoirs, effected by hydro technical constructions, Emergency Situations Ministry and river navy services.

Short summary

Small diving boat is designed to carry out wrecking and underwater engineering work in sea near shore zones, on rivers, lakes and reservoirs involving three-bolt ventilated equipment at the depth of 45 metres.

It is possible to equip the boat with other types of Russian and foreign diving equipment.

The boat has a diving station with diving equipment, which allows to dive and rise to the surface, while effecting decompression regime by two divers, and also a reduced recompression RKU type-chamber to effect a curative recompression regime.

The vessel can operate in the conditions of moderate climate with limiting temperatures:

- outer air up to 300 C and relative humidity up to 90%;
- outside air up to 270C

The vessel is classified by the Russian Marine Register of Shipping as KMO [1]ShA1.

It is classified by the Russian River Register as +O.

Boat version without diving equipment may be used as a general service launch or motor yacht for rest afloat. In this case the boat may be built in accordance with the requirements of M-2,0 class of the Russian River Register.

Stability and floodability (flooded stability) of the boat are guaranteed in accordance with the Rules of the Russian Marine Register of Shipping in case of inundation of any waterproof compartment.

Seaworthiness

The boat may be operated without any speed or hydraulic motor revs limitations in the rough sea with wave heights of up to 1.25m (3 balls), with speed limitations at the wave height of up to 2m.

Fuel distance depends on fuel, oil and water capacity and is no less than 350 miles (650 km). Provisions and fresh water reserves will be enough for no less than 3 days.

Service capacity of the main power plant will guarantee total speed of about 11 knots (abt. 20km/h).

Crew includes 6 persons, 4 of them are a diving crew. Crew is to be accommodated in the salon.

To accommodate diving equipment the boat has:

- diving station room,
- divers’ equipment storeroom.

Hull

Basic hull material is RCA low-alloy sheet steel with yield point of 2350 kg/cm2, and superstructure material is Al-Mg alloy

The hull has a longitudinal framing system.

Hull strength meets the requirements of the Rules of the Russian Marine Register of Shipping and River Register.

Protection

Hull corrosion is prevented with appropriate paint-and-lacquer materials.

To prevent fire the boat is equipped with:

- carbon dioxide firefighting system;
- OP-5 powder fire extinguisher.

Devices

Mooring device.

Mooring device consists of an anchor with elevated holding power, windlass (manual or electric), stern anchor and anchor cable.

Mooring tow gear.

To moor the vessel and execute towing operations the deck has a necessary number of bollards, mooring chocks and hawses.

Elements of steering gear are chosen in accordance with the Rules of the Russian Marine Register of Shipping.

The vessel is equipped with steering gear with profiled rudder blade and hydraulic drive.

The bow thruster guarantees improved maneouvrability.

Rescue equipment meets the requirements of the Rules of the Russian Marine Register of Shipping.

The boat has PSN-6 lifeboat as a collective rescue facility.

Diving sleeves, joined to the telephone cables, are kept in the baskets, and safety and life lines – on the dampers on the open deck of the stern.

Decompression stage is kept in the box on the stern.

The hull has rings to lift the vessel on the shore or another vessel.

Systems

To ensure divers’ safe work the boat has a system of compressed air under the pressure of 20 MPa (200 kg/cm), which includes:

- electric compressor
- air drying and purification unit
- three double-neck canisters under pressure of 20 MPa  with the size of 80 l each,
- two air distributing diving shields,
- shield of chamber air feeding,
- pipelines with stop, reduction and security valves.

The boat has systems to maintain life activity of the crew and the vessel as a whole:

- ventilation and air conditioning systems,
- fresh and outside water systems,
- service water system,
- oil water waste system.

Power plant

One-shaft diesel power plant with power supply to the fixed pitch propeller.

The main engine is a Perkins Sabre M 215 Ñ diesel engine. The capacity is 215 hp with rotation speed of 2500 rpm.

Diesel engines are equipped with fuel, oil, cooling and exhaust systems in accordance with the conditions of their supply.

Electric equipment

The basic current type is direct current with the voltage of 24 V, moreover there is a network of alternative three-phase current under the voltage of 380 v and frequency 50Hz.

Basic sources of electricity are diesel generator with a capacity of 16-20 kW, which provides alternative current with t voltage of 380 V, frequency 50 Hz, and DC generator with the capacity of 2 KW and voltage 27 V, fixed on the main engine.

During stops DC network of the voltage 24/27 V is effected through the rectifier and storage batteries.

It is possible to connect to electricity from land by means of the network with voltage of 380 V.

Navigation, communication and signalization facilities

To communicate service messages, emergency and private correspondence the boat is equipped with Furuno communication (Japan), which includes the following components:

The river version has River-SD radio station and two units of Granit R-44 portable radio station.

For continuous automatic update of current coordinates of location, time and absolute speed on the basis of radio signals the boat is equipped with GPS-36 FURUNO satellite receiver.

To transmit verbal commands and messages and to communicate acoustic signals on the move and during stops, the boat has signal and Tornado acoustic system.

The boat has signal and identification lights and sound signal equipment, corresponding to this class of vessel.

Technical equipment automatisation

Main engine operation control is effected from the control console in the pilot room.

The boat has the system of signalizing about water entry into the engine room and fire in the premises of the boat.

Diesel generator operation is controlled from the wheelhouse console.
